2009 Elite Selection Playoff: Week Seven

The BCS standings were released this week. In conjunction with this, Clashmore Mike has decided to release the first update of the Elite Selection Playoff. For AV Ranking comparison purposes, Sagarin’s ranking can be found here.

This does, however, come with a caveat.

In week seven virtually all rankings are meaningless. Much will change between now and the end of the season and publishing rankings like this does little more than serve as a topic of discussion.

For Irish fans, the numbers are very average. Notre Dame comes in at number 35th in the AV Ranking with the 35th best strength of schedule and 46th best Team Performance Ratio (see here or here for a description of Team Performance Ratios).

The remaining tables are published without comment. As the season progresses analysis of these rankings will aim to sort out the “what if” scenarios that inevitably plague the BCS.
